It has been a busy and eventful summer! Many of you will have managed to meet Thirumaran during his visit to the UK. Thank you so much for all your support in offering hospitality and attending events, as well as for your financial contributions to enable us to help the children looked after in the TRUST Children Home. Thirumaran had a very full week in the south of the UK, travelling (London, Andover, Devon and Dorset), meeting well-wishers and sightseeing. This was the first time that he had travelled outside India, so the experience must have been amazing for him! Following this week, he travelled by train to Scotland and enjoyed a slightly less hectic week with the family of the supporter who invited him and generously paid for his ticket.
There are two videos to remind us of the occasion. The first was made by Emma George and family, who visited TRUST in January 2011, and which Thirumaran watched for the first time when he stayed with them in Devon. It shows the children and gives a lovely introduction to the Children Home. Please click here to watch it. The second was made when Thirumaran attended the London exhibition of the HeartPrints project. Please click here to discover more about the HeartPrints project and to find links to the second video and the HeartPrints images taken by the children.
As a direct result of support at events organised while Thirumaran was visiting, over £6000 has been donated and sent to the TRUST Children Home. Very many thanks to all those who contributed to this amazingly generous sum, as well as to all those who gave their time and energy to organise the events. This substantial capital sum will be used to begin to build some shop units on land owned by TRUST in the village. In due course these units should provide a rental income which will directly benefit the children, providing greater financial stability for the Children Home.
The regular standing orders contributed by so many of you now enable the Support Group to send at least £900 every three months to provide for the children. This helps to pay the bills for food, for education and for the staff. Many regular contributions are just £5 a month, which seems very little in the UK but which can make a very useful difference in India. This is a regular support that the Children Home can rely on and Thirumaran has made it clear that it is very much appreciated.
If you have been intending to make a regular contribution but haven't yet done so, it is very easy! All you need to do is to download this form, fill it in and return it to us!
On behalf of the Thirumaran and of the children in the TRUST Children Home, thank you all very much indeed for your continuing interest and support.
