Divali 2015Divali celebration, blood donation, medical issues and some happy girls!

In India Diwali, Pongal, Christmas, New Year, Bakrith, Ramzan, Moharam, Thiru Karthikai and Saraswathi Pooja are the popular festivals. People welcome these for different food, welcoming guests, wearing new clothes, letting off fireworks, eating a lot of sugar cane, cutting cakes, bursting balloons, worshipping Gods and Goddesses, making short tours, visiting Temples and Churches, offering special prayers and something to the poor around them.

Divali 2015Thirumaran writes: "This year Diwali was on Nov 10th. We had lots of fun on that day. Lots of crackers, snacks, sweets, chicken, new clothes and photos.
Kindly enjoy the photos, including small kids enjoying play with toy guns and roll caps. Next we are getting ready to welcome Christmas and New Year (2016)."

Blood donation medalThirumaran started a Blood Donation Service in 1987 after his mother passed away partly as a result of a lack of available blood for a transfusion.  The service started with just 11 members and there are now almost 100,000 members all over Tamil Nadu, donating more than 160,000 pints of blood.  On Nov 15th, the District Collector of Tirunelveli, Mr. Karunakaran I.A.S, the Dean of Tirunelveli Medical College, the Blood Bank authorities, the Red Cross Society and the J. Director of Health Services awarded him a well deserved medal and a certificate for his continuing work organising Blood Donation opportunities.

Dog biteOne of the small girls was unfortunately bitten by a dog. It was a very bad bite for a small child. She is making a good recovery after special injections at a private hospital had been given.
Some weeks earlier, two girls had to be rushed to Kadayam hospital after drinking a poisonous liquid. Although seriously unwell, after treatment they have, happily, made a good recovery. This incident had a disturbing effect on all the children.

Partly as a distraction from these upsets a new project was started. Children should learn and say 25 Tamil quotations (Thirukkural) and Thirumaran would make 25 photos of the children, wherever they would like them taken, and if they say 5 more quotations then that particular child can have a photo with the “Principal Servant” (Thirumaran).  It is working! More than 10 children have finished.
Here are some of the photos of the happy girls!  Please click on any photo to see larger versions of them all.
